Fun in Berlin: escape rooms, light art, spies and gaming history

Sometimes in Berlin you do not want to look at things, you want to do something: solve puzzles, marvel, play. Here are four places where that works, from an escape room behind bookshelves to light art in an old industrial hall.

Kieznah tip

Dark Matter

Light art in pitch-black industrial halls in Lichtenberg, far from any queue at the Brandenburg Gate.

01 Miraculum · Kreuzberg

about 8 minutes on foot from Möckernbrücke U-Bahn station

From outside it looks like an old bookshop at Stresemannstraße 50; behind it are escape rooms that feel more like stage sets. Groups of 1 to 6 play, and a game lasts 75 minutes. According to the operator, Frankenstein, built by The Room Labs, costs from 45 euros per person for 2 to 5 players, and Magistra Miraculorum from 50 euros per person for 1 to 4. You need to book ahead.

02 Dark Matter · Lichtenberg

about 22 minutes on foot from Rummelsburg S-Bahn station

On a former industrial site at Köpenicker Chaussee 46, artist Christopher Bauder shows his light and media installations in velvet-black rooms, seven of them in the permanent Kollektion. From 4 November 2026 to 14 February 2027 there is also the special exhibition Winterlights in the Transformator area, with its own ticket. It is open Wednesday and Thursday 2 pm to 10 pm, Friday noon to 11 pm, Saturday 11 am to 11 pm and Sunday 11 am to 10 pm, closed Monday and Tuesday.

03 German Spy Museum · Mitte

about 3 minutes on foot from Potsdamer Platz S-Bahn station

A hands-on museum at Leipziger Platz 9 about agents and secret services, with an Enigma machine, bugs and props from James Bond films. You can try a laser maze, a lie detector and secret codes. Open daily from 10 am to 8 pm. Prices vary with demand: online 8 to 18.50 euros regular, 6 to 13.50 euros reduced.

04 Computer Games Museum · Friedrichshain

about 4 minutes on foot from Weberwiese U-Bahn station

At Karl-Marx-Allee 93a you can get your hands on gaming history: a 1980s arcade, a 1990s living room, Pong, a giant controller and the notorious Pain Station. According to berlin.de it is open daily from 10 am to 8 pm, and admission in January 2026 was 12 euros, 8 euros reduced. The avenue itself, with its grand GDR buildings, is worth a walk.
