According to the Steglitz-Zehlendorf district office the facility is open to everyone and can be used at any time without registration; it was officially opened in April 2024 and had been in use since late 2023. The university lists 11 pieces of equipment on around 300 square meters. According to the university, the changing rooms and washrooms of the sports hall can be used during its opening hours. If you are hungry afterwards, the village centre of Dahlem and the Domäne Dahlem farm are a few minutes away.
B Calisthenics area in Volkspark Wilmersdorf · Wilmersdorf
about 9 minutes on foot from Blissestraße U-Bahn station
A calisthenics area in the middle of the long, narrow Volkspark, right on our running loop through the park, so a run and strength exercises combine easily. According to OpenStreetMap the area is not lit, so in winter it is more of a weekend option.
C Calisthenics area in Park am Gleisdreieck · Kreuzberg
about 6 minutes on foot from Gleisdreieck U-Bahn station
In the western part of Park am Gleisdreieck, which is run by the state-owned Grün Berlin GmbH. In OpenStreetMap the area is listed with Grün Berlin as operator.
D Calisthenics Park Hallesches Tor · Kreuzberg
about 2 minutes on foot from Hallesches Tor U-Bahn station
A small spot right by the U-Bahn station, listed in OpenStreetMap under this name and as wheelchair accessible. It is central enough for a short session between two appointments.
E Outdoor gym on Max-Josef-Metzger-Platz · Wedding
about 2 minutes on foot from Wedding U-Bahn station
On the square next to Wedding U-Bahn station. OpenStreetMap lists the Mitte district's roads and green spaces office as operator, along with a synthetic surface, free access around the clock and no lighting, last checked on site in March 2023.
F Calisthenics Park Adlershof · Johannisthal
about 23 minutes on foot from Adlershof S-Bahn station
In the Johannisthal/Adlershof landscape park on the former Johannisthal airfield, on sand and without lighting according to OpenStreetMap. The longest walk on this list, but the spot lies in a large open park where running and training combine well.
Training together: Sport im Park
If you prefer to train with an instructor and in a group, Berlin has "Sport im Park" every year from May to October. The programme is organised by the Senate Department for the Interior and Sport together with Berlin sports clubs; all sessions are free, need no registration and no experience. In 2026 it ran as "Sport im Park inklusiv" together with Special Olympics Berlin, according to the Senate with around 260 sessions in around 100 parks, sports grounds and squares, starting on 8 May. The sessions are listed in the Senate's exercise calendar. The Senate has not yet published the 2027 dates. According to the Senate, questions about clubs and regular training groups are answered by the Landessportbund Berlin.
Good to know
The spots are public; nobody reserves a bar for themselves, and if you train for a long time, let others in now and then. We deliberately leave out loose groups that meet via social media, because they come and go. Running loops that combine with one of these spots are in Running routes in Berlin.
