Made in Berlin
Made in Berlin: souvenirs instead of fridge magnets
The bear on the fridge magnet rarely comes from Berlin. Yet this city has been baking, distilling and firing for centuries: cake, liqueur and porcelain. Here are things you can give with a clear conscience, and the stories to tell when you hand them over.
The classic
Magnet, Ampelmann mug, piece of the Wall
Sold on every corner in Mitte. Where it was made is rarely on the label.

Cake from a patisserie founded in 1852, liqueur from Kreuzberg, porcelain with the blue sceptre.
01 Baumkuchen from Buchwald · Moabit
Konditorei G. Buchwald was founded in 1852 in Cottbus and is still family-run. Its house-recipe Baumkuchen is the signature, and it travels well, which makes it a souvenir that still tastes good after the flight home. If you have time, eat a slice first in the café on Bartningallee, a few minutes from Bellevue S-Bahn station. More in Where Berliners actually eat.
02 Halb und Halb from Mampe · Kreuzberg
It began with a stomach bitter that the physician Carl Mampe developed against cholera in the 1830s. In 1894 came Halb und Halb, a liqueur of bitter oranges and herbs that was poured in the company's own Mampe bars, the first on Friedrichstraße. After a long pause the brand was revived in 2012, and today it is distilled in a manufactory in Kreuzberg. There, in July 2026, Mampe opened a small museum with more than 300 objects, including furniture from the old bars. Admission is free, and tasting is allowed.
03 Berliner Luft · Kaulsdorf
The peppermint liqueur with a name everyone understands comes from Schilkin in Alt-Kaulsdorf in the east of the city. It has been a party regular for years, and as a souvenir it works because of the name: you are literally giving away a little Berlin air.
04 KPM porcelain · Charlottenburg
In 1763 Frederick the Great bought a Berlin porcelain works and made it the Royal Porcelain Manufactory, and every piece has carried the cobalt-blue sceptre ever since. Production continues at the historic site at Wegelystraße 1 by the Tiergarten. There you can see how porcelain is made in an exhibition that includes the listed ring-kiln hall, and shop in the store, Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm. Not a bargain, but a souvenir that lasts for generations. Selected pieces are sold in the factory outlet.

05 Beef salami from Bergsdorfer Wiesenrind ♥ · Brandenburg
North of Berlin, near Zehdenick, the Uckermark cattle of Agrar GmbH Bergsdorf graze. The farm does everything itself, from breeding to sausage, and the salami is beef with no pork, plain or with garlic. There are also sausages and ready meals in jars that travel well in a suitcase. Available at the farm shop and online.
Transparency note: the publisher knows the owner personally.
06 From the Domäne Dahlem farm shop · Dahlem
A farm in the middle of the city that also has its own shop. The Domäne farm shop sells the estate's produce: meat and sausage from heritage breeds, seasonal vegetables and many potato varieties. On Saturdays there is also an organic market with producers from Berlin and Brandenburg. More in our 12 places.
