Brewpubs in Berlin: where beer is brewed and freshly tapped
Berlin brews beer in S-Bahn arches, on the Pfefferberg in Prenzlauer Berg and in a hall made of shipping containers. Here are the places where you can see where the beer comes from, with tours and tastings where they exist, plus a Bavarian inn on Friedrichstraße where the beer comes fresh from the barrel. 01 Lemke brewery · Mitte und Charlottenburg
On 21 November 1999 Oli Lemke opened his brewery in a run-down railway arch at Hackescher Markt. Today, according to the brewery, the beers are made in eleven historic S-Bahn arches between Hackescher Markt and Alexanderplatz, on a new brewhouse since 2018. Lemke brews pilsner, wheat beer and IPAs and has a particular passion for Berliner Weisse, more in Berliner Weisse fact-checked. The brewery runs three houses of its own, plus the Tiergartenquelle, which Lemke took over in 2003.

The original house in S-Bahn arch 143 on Dircksenstraße, with German food and a green beer garden in the courtyard away from the street. Open Monday to Saturday from noon to 11:30 pm, Sunday from 1 pm to 10 pm.

At Karl-Liebknecht-Straße 13, also in the S-Bahn arches, with barbecue and grill. This is where Lemke brews its Berliner Weisse in-house using the traditional method. Open Monday to Saturday from noon and Sunday from 3 pm to 10 pm.
Luisenbräu in Charlottenburg

The inn at Luisenplatz 1 by Charlottenburg Palace has belonged to Lemke since 2007 and serves a house beer brewed especially for it. Open daily from noon to 10 pm. A good match for a visit to the palace gardens.

In S-Bahn arch 482 on Bachstraße, a student haunt for decades, taken over by Lemke in 2003. Open Monday to Friday from 4 pm, at weekends and on public holidays from 2 pm, with the beer garden open from April to the end of September in good weather.

The meeting point is the brewery's main gate at Rochstraße 6a. Open tours run on several dates on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, from five people, and follow the beer from the brewhouse to bottling, with a tasting. Booking is online. Food is not included; for that the brewery recommends one of its houses. Fresh beer can be bought at the brewery by phone appointment.

A Bavarian inn at Friedrichstraße 185 to 190, open daily from 11:30 am to 11:30 pm. The beer comes from copper taps: beers from Hacker-Pschorr, fresh from the barrel according to the house, and the Edelhell even from a wooden cask. If you do not drink beer, the menu has an alcohol-free lager, an alcohol-free Natur-Radler and an alcohol-free beer from Hopf, and there is a Berliner Weisse too. Maximilians also runs beer tastings on fixed dates, 35 or 50 euros per person depending on the theme, for example on 12 November 2026 with bock beers and on 7 January 2027 with six alcohol-free beers.

At Schönhauser Allee 176, brewmaster Thorsten Schoppe brews with hops, malt and water, without heat treatment or filtration according to the house. The brewery tour runs every Thursday from 5 pm, lasts about 60 minutes and costs 29 euros, with beer fresh from the tank, three selected beers and snacks. The brewpub is open Monday to Saturday from 5 pm to 10:30 pm, with a beer garden in summer. The Schankhalle is an inclusive business.
04 BRLO Brwhouse · Kreuzberg

BRLO was founded in Berlin in 2014. At Gleisdreieck, at Schöneberger Straße 16, stands its show brewery and restaurant, built from 38 used shipping containers. Since 2017 BRLO has been taking guests through the brewery; tastings can be booked online or on site. The restaurant puts vegetables first and is open Tuesday to Friday from 5 pm to midnight, Saturday from noon to midnight and Sunday from noon to 10 pm, closed on Mondays. In summer there is a beer garden too, more in Beer gardens in Berlin.
05 Brauhaus Spandau · Spandau

Beer has been brewed at Neuendorfer Straße 1 for more than 30 years; the house beer is called Havelbräu, plus seasonal beers. There is a beer garden right by the brewery. The brewpub offers tours for small and large groups, plus brewing courses that you book online. It is open daily from 10 am from April to October and from 11 am from November to March. Spandau's old town and the Citadel are nearby.
Good to know
- Tours with tasting: At Lemke, Pfefferberg and BRLO, tasting is part of the tour. If you do not want to drink, ask when booking whether there is an alternative.
- Beer to take away: Lemke sells at the brewery by phone appointment. What works as a souvenir is in Made in Berlin.
